For Immediate Release: June 16, 2023
Summer has arrived and West Lincoln Public Library invites kids and their families to “Check This Out” and register for the annual TD Summer Reading Club: Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities.
Starting in June, kids ages 0-17 are encouraged to register for the TD Summer Reading Club at any West Lincoln Public Library branch and pick up their free reading kit, which includes a notebook and stickers. Kids can track their reading throughout the summer, participate in programs at the library and visit www.tdsummerreadingclub.ca to create an online notebook and read e-books. While online, kids can also submit book reviews, share jokes, write stories, get book recommendations, and vote for their favourite book.
This year’s TD Summer Reading Club theme is “Check This Out” and encourages families to explore their neighbourhoods, libraries, and the world around them while learning amazing facts and reading mysterious fiction. It features a web comic written by Canadian author and illustrator Cyndi Marko that kids can read, listen to, and comment on throughout the summer.
Studies show that kids who keep reading throughout the summer do better when they return to school in the fall. The TD Summer Reading Club is an ideal way to keep kids engaged. This free program is co-created and delivered by over 2,200 public libraries across Canada.
The TD Summer Reading Club fun officially starts on Monday, June 26th 2023, with weekly programming running all summer long to encourage kids to find what makes them curious and creative. Children ages 7-12 can register to join our Questioneers, where they’ll explore activities highlighting science, nature, and art. Teens 13-17 can join in on the fun, too, by registering for our TeenLab program and working together to solve weekly mysteries about gravity, the weather, and space. Children of pre-reading age are invited to visit during weekly “Check Out This Book!” storytime, where the library will highlight some of the books featured on the TD Summer Reads list. Adults can participate, as well, by playing our Summer Reading Bingo that encourages multi-genre and diverse author selection for their summer book choices.
Keep up-to-date with all of our summer programming! For reminders and program updates, email us at info@westlincolnlibrary.ca, follow West Lincoln Public Library on Facebook, Twitter @WLPLibrary, Instagram @westlincolnpubliclibrary, and visit the West Lincoln Public Library website event page.
“Kids can participate anytime, anywhere—families can read at home, online, on the road, or wherever their summer takes them. The TD Summer Reading Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories. It’s designed to help kids explore the fun of literacy their way—the key to building a lifelong love of reading. Our staff are very excited to see our community participate and share their love for books, making new friends, and finding what inspires them.”
