The Township Administration Building, Public Works Building, West Lincoln Community Centre and West Lincoln Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 30, for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established by the federal government in 2021 in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 80. The purpose of this national day is to honour Survivors, their families and communities, and to ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.

September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots movement to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the Survivors and their families and to reinforce the knowledge that Every Child Matters.

The Township of West Lincoln honours the children taken from their families to attend Indian Residential Schools and supports the families and communities who have been impacted by this part of Canada’s history. Please consider wearing orange on September 30 to show support to the Indigenous community.
