West Lincoln Enhances Safety with School Zone Extension, Speed Reduction

For Immediate Release: May 13, 2024

The Township of West Lincoln has extended the borders and reduced the speed limit of the school zone on Caistor Centre Road, to improve safety for students, families and teachers traveling to and from school.

The school zone of 50 km/h is now in effect beginning and ending 150 metres on either side of the Caistor Central Public School property limits, at 1794 Caistor Centre Road. Anyone found to be speeding in a School Zone will face increased fines.

The Township reviewed the posted speed and school zone on Caistor Centre Road, between Concession Road 5 and Regional Road 65 (Silver Street), in collaboration with Niagara Region, earlier this year. Council approved Staff’s recommendation of the new speed and extended school zone on March 25.

New signs are now in place. Enforcement of the changes was effective immediately upon installation of the signs.

Quotes:

“Road safety is a high priority for myself and my colleagues on Council. As a former teacher, I could not be happier to be a part of decision making that will positively impact the safety of students in our community. Thank you to Township and Region Staff for their excellent collaboration on this project.”

Mayor Cheryl Ganann

“Ten kilometers per hour may not seem like a drastic change, but it makes a big difference for those families sending their little ones off to school. This is another great accomplishment towards enhancing our community’s overall safety.”
