His Worship Douglas Joyner is currently serving his second term as Mayor of the Township of West Lincoln and his second term on Niagara Regional Council.
As a Regional Councillor, Mayor Joyner currently serves on the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, as well as on the following Niagara Region Committee’s: Planning and Development Committee, Public Works Committee, Public Health and Social Services Committee, Niagara Investment in Culture (NIC) Adjudication Panel, Niagara Region Culture Committee, Agricultural Policy and Action Committee, and the Niagara Region Accessibility Committee.
For the two-year term (2015-2016), Councillor Joyner is extremely honored to have been elected as Co-Chair for the Public Health and Social Services Committee, aligned to the Community Services portfolio.
In Community services, the Niagara Region manages and delivers a range of social programs, most of which are mandated, funded, and regulated by the Provincial Government. Many services are delivered in partnership with community organizations. We pursue our mandate through four divisions: Children’s Services, Seniors Services, Social Assistance and Employment Opportunities (SAEO), and Homelessness Services and Community Engagement. Many of those served are among Niagara’s most vulnerable.
Giving back to Niagara’s 12 municipalities is not new for Mayor Joyner and he is pleased to report that he has agreed to join the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara as a member of their Board of Directors. KFCACN is a safe place to help, heal and end child abuse for Niagara’s children and youth!
Because of his role as Regional Council Liaison on the Niagara Region Accessibility Committee, Mayor Joyner sat as Chair of the Council Chamber Renovations Committee. Niagara Region Council Chamber – Dedicated and officially re-opened April 10, 2014.
And lastly, in 2012, Mayor Joyner was pleased to be awarded with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Medal, created to mark the 60th Anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne.
He was elected Alderman of Ward 3 for the Township of West Lincoln for the 2006 – 2010 term and served as Chair of the Administration, Finance, and Fire Services Committee. He also served as Council Liaison to the West Lincoln Community care, West Lincoln community Improvement Project (CIP), and the Commercial Industrial Development Board (CIDB) as well serving the businesses of West Lincoln.
His community involvement includes: newly appointed member to the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara (KFCACN) Board of Directors, appointed member to the West Niagara Employment Help Centre (EHC) Board of Directors, President of West Lincoln T-Ball, past member of West Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, and he is an active member of St. Martins Catholic Parish and St. Lukes Anglican Church.
In 2013, Mayor Joyner was named the Event Honorary Chair for Evan’s Ride & Family Fun Day for Autism Niagara. This incredible event is held the last Sunday in May to raise funds for children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). For Evan, the ride symbolizes the hope, drive and passion of people impacted by ASD.
And finally, Douglas is married to Barbara (RN) (nee Crawford of North Pelham) and they have three children, Rebecca, Alexander, and Dante.
